Humeral Shaft Fractures

A fracture of the shaft of the humerus bone is a less common fracture.  Fractures in this area are relatively forgiving and usually heal well. Once fracture healing occurs, the prognosis is usually very good.

Treatment Options

These can be treated either with functional bracing known as a Sarmiento brace, or operative fixation with a plate and screws or placement of a rod inside the fractured bone.

Elbow Fractures

The elbow joint is made up of the bottom or distal end of the humerus, and the top or proximal ends of the radius and ulna bones of the forearm.  Various fracture patterns can occur with these bones.  Some fractures occur inside the joint and involve the articulating surface of these bones. Others occur outside the joint.

Treatment Options

Treatment for these fractures may be non-surgical or surgical.  Non-surgical treatment often is considered for injuries outside the joint, or for fractures that occur inside the joint but have minimal or no displacement.  Fractures that have significant displacement or angulation may require surgical setting of the bone (reduction) with plates/screws or other forms of fixation.

Wrist and Forearm fractures

The forearm and wrist are made up of the radius and ulna bones and the smaller bones of the wrist called carpal bones.  Patients commonly will have wrist fractures after a fall on outstretched hands. Much less commonly, the small carpal bones such as the scaphoid can be involved.  Various fracture patterns can occur with these bones.  Some fractures occur inside the joint surfaces of these bones. Others occur outside the joints.

Treatment Options

Treatment for these fractures may be non-surgical or surgical.  Non-surgical treatment often is considered for injuries that are either outside the joint surfaces, for fractures that occur inside the joint but have minimal or no displacement.  Fractures that have significant displacement or angulation may require surgical setting (reduction) of the bone with plates/screws or other types of surgical fixation.

Hand and Finger Fractures

The bones of the hand are called metacarpals.  The individual bones of your fingers are called phalanx.  Fractures of hands and fingers are very common.  A very common hand injury is a metacarpal fracture or “boxer’s fractures” which often are the result of punching something.  Fingertip injuries and fracture of the phalanx are also very common.  Various fracture patterns can occur with these bones.  Some fractures occur inside the joint surfaces of these bones. Others occur outside the joints.

Treatment Options

Treatment for these fractures may be non-surgical or surgical.  Non-surgical treatment often is considered for injuries that are either outside the joint surfaces, or for fractures that occur inside the joint but have minimal or no displacement.  Fractures that have significant displacement or angulation may require surgical setting (reduction) of the bone with plates/screws or other types of surgical fixation.

Some fingertip injuries may include fingernail and nail bed lacerations and may require repair of the fingernail bed. Some fingertip injuries are so profound the fingertip must be amputated.

Dr. Bishop and his team got me in last minute after my referral got lost between my PCP and their office. The front desk was polite and helpful. Their paperwork was minimal. X rays were quick and waiting time in the room was minimal before Dr. Bishop came in. He explained everything clearly and have me a copy of all of his recommendations before asking me to schedule a follow-up visit.

Dr. Cary Sanders is a very knowledgeable and compassionate doctor. He explains things very well. I highly recommend him. The office staff is very friendly and helpful also. Ben Baird is also top notch and has given me numerous cortisone and lubricant injections on my knee. Both my wife and I have seen Dr. Bishop and he has our highest recommendation also.

Dr. Sanders has been seeing me regarding my knee for the past 4 years. After all the years of dealing with knee pain and injection shots, it has been agreed that it is time to get a knee replacement. Dr. Sanders and his staff are incredible.

Everyone was great. Hardly any wait time. The doctor was very knowledgeable and drew a picture of what’s going on in my elbow. Received a shot, it’s feeling better already. Definitely refer anyone that needs an orthopedic doctor.

My little guy got the best care here after breaking his arm on the trampoline. We seen Benjamin Baird, PA, and were impressed with his genuine interest and kid approved humor. We hope we aren’t back anytime soon, but if there are any more breaks, we’d choose Cascade again.

Dr. Sanders, from Cascade Orthopedic Specialists, did a much needed right kbee replacement for me in October 31, 2024. I received top level care from their staff, both pre-op and post-op. Hospital care and treatment at Mercy was excellent. Rehab at Theropy Plus was painful for the first two weeks, but healing came quickly. I now have great range of motion and living pain free with my new knee. Thank you, everyone.
