Dr. Cary Sanders

Dr. Sanders was born in Southern Illinois the youngest of seven boys. His father was a science teacher and school administrator. His mother was a devoted stay-at-home mom. Dr. Sanders was born with clubfoot requiring multiple surgeries and bracing as an infant. His early years of childhood were spent on a farm where he learned work and responsibility. As he grew older, his own experiences as a patient triggered an interest in becoming an orthopedic surgeon. At the age of 16 his family moved to Florida where he graduated from Winter Haven High School.

After high school, Dr. Sanders served a two-year mission in Salvador, Brazil for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Subsequent to his mission service, Dr. Sanders completed his undergraduate coursework at the University of Missouri-Columbia where he met his wife Katrina. During these years, Dr. Sanders worked in the hospital setting as a nurse tech preparing him for his career in healthcare.

Dr. Sanders was accepted to the University of Missouri – Columbia School of Medicine in 2002 and graduated in 2006. His orthopedic surgery training was completed at Tulane University in New Orleans, LA in 2011. His first practice after residency training was in Sikeston, MO. He practiced there for 4 years but desired to have a practice more focused on total knee and hip replacement. He moved his family of 9 to beautiful southern Oregon where he has been practicing from 2015 to present.

Dr. Sanders has been married to Katrina his wife since 1999. They have 7 children and live on a timber farm in Melrose. Dr. Sanders has many interests outside work! He loves to play classical and contemporary piano. He also enjoys hunting, fishing, hiking, and working on his farm. He loves to travel, explore the great northwest, and learn new things.

Dr. Sanders has a passion for caring for his patients and providing them with the latest in nonsurgical and surgical care. He has worked side by side with the local hospital and other local total joint surgeons to build New Strides – a total joint program designed to optimize outcomes and avoid complications. Dr. Sanders says, “I never tire of seeing patients improve! Nothing is more satisfying to me than a patient coming to me with a painful orthopedic problem and for me to play a key role in their recovery!”

He then attended the Physician Assistant program at Rocky Mountain College in Billings, Montana, receiving his Master’s degree in 2010 and gaining certification as a Physician Assistant by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).

It was during Ben’s medical rotations where he observed the impact of practicing orthopedics can have on a patient’s quality of life. He was drawn to pursue a career where he could support patients in receiving a quality of care that elevates their mobility and gets them to a place where they enjoy doing activities they love. He and Dr Sanders specialize in total hip and total knee replacement and introduced the direct anterior approach to hip replacement to Douglas County. They also have brought Iovera (a pain reducing treatment for total knee replacement) to the area. Ben and Dr. Sanders strive to create a personal experience as they develop treatment plans for arthritis, trauma, sports injuries and a variety of orthopedic issues.

He enjoys watching his boys play soccer, movie nights with the family, and serving in his church. When he is not working or with his family Ben enjoys golfing, riding his motorcycle, mountain biking, and camping.

Dr. Bishop and his team got me in last minute after my referral got lost between my PCP and their office. The front desk was polite and helpful. Their paperwork was minimal. X rays were quick and waiting time in the room was minimal before Dr. Bishop came in. He explained everything clearly and have me a copy of all of his recommendations before asking me to schedule a follow-up visit.

Dr. Sanders has been seeing me regarding my knee for the past 4 years. After all the years of dealing with knee pain and injection shots, it has been agreed that it is time to get a knee replacement. Dr. Sanders and his staff are incredible.

Everyone was great. Hardly any wait time. The doctor was very knowledgeable and drew a picture of what’s going on in my elbow. Received a shot, it’s feeling better already. Definitely refer anyone that needs an orthopedic doctor.

My little guy got the best care here after breaking his arm on the trampoline. We seen Benjamin Baird, PA, and were impressed with his genuine interest and kid approved humor. We hope we aren’t back anytime soon, but if there are any more breaks, we’d choose Cascade again.
